How many D.C. residents working in construction are part of a union?

State by state data on union membership in the construction trades is collected annually by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This data is compiled and displayed in a readable form annually by Professors Barry Hirsch (Georgia State University), David Macpherson (Trinity University), and William Even (Miami University) at http://unionstats.com.

The most recent data available show that in 2022, only 14.4% of District of Columbia residents working in construction were part of a labor union. 85.6% were not part of the union.

This District’s construction workforce has long been predominantly non-union due to a number of factors, including the treatment of racial minorities in construction trade unions.
